In Malaysia former deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yakub has moved closer to forming the next government.
Sabri secured a parliamentary majority from the same coalition that collapsed earlier this week. Muhyiddin Yassin resigned as prime minister after losing support from his alliance bringing it into his 17 months. In office country’s king Al-sultan Abdullah is scheduled to meet with other senior royals on friday before making a final decision.
Sabri’s appointment will mark the return of the united malays national organization party to leadership caretaker premier. Muyudin Yasin said the support was conditional on Sabri ensuring that the new cabinet will be free from graft charges.
