The U.S court has upheld the conviction and death sentence of white supremacist Dylan Ruth in a case of killing nine black people in 2015.
The three judge federal appeals court said the legal record cannot even capture the full horror of what he did. A unanimous panel rejected arguments that the white man should have been ruled incompetent to stand trial. The fourth circuit found that the trial judge did not commit an error when he found Roof was competent to stand trial.
The panel added that Roof’s crimes qualify him for the harshest penalty that a just society can impose. Earlier in 2021 – 202 a Jury found Roof guilty of 33 federal charges of the mass shooting at Church and later on sentenced him to death.
